Changing the future of East Tennessee through collaborative philanthropy
We believe that when you invest in a woman, you invest in a family, a community, and ultimately whole nations. By helping women and girls, we create healthier communities for all of us.
East Tennessee Foundation has an outstanding history of proactively meeting the needs and advancing opportunities for people in our region. In that same light we are proud to introduce The Women's and Girls' Fund of East Tennessee Foundation (Women's Fund).
Community Foundations around the world have discovered that women's funds provide critical financial power to help women find solutions to family and community challenges such as: poverty, domestic violence, education, job training, health concerns, and the many other issues that challenge an individual's ability to develop their personal assets to be successful citizens.
Our mission is simple. The Women's Fund provides grants to organizations that improve the lives of women and girls in East Tennessee by building a philanthropic community dedicated to that purpose. By helping women build assets, our goal is to create self-sufficiency as we try to make a step-function difference in our region.
Why give to the Women's Fund?
Women's funds use a unique approach to grantmaking, setting them apart from the more traditional approaches and lending themselves to strategically assessing the impact and effectiveness of the funded program and organization's work.
Together we have the opportunity to:
- Focus on "system solutions" to issues that continuously place women and their children at a higher risk of living in or below the poverty level.
- Invest in women to increase education and skill levels to enhance competiveness in seeking and securing gainful employment.
- Build leadership within marginalized communities to strengthen family self-reliance.
- Share a common focus on critical issues such as: increasing access to affordable, safe housing and childcare, securing gainful employment, increasing access to education and health care, and creating opportunities for women and girls to live in environments free of violence and abuse.
We believe that everyone can be a philanthropist. Together we can improve the well being of our communities and the families that call East Tennessee home.
