JOHNSON COUNTY

AFFILIATE: Johnson County Community Foundation (An affiliate is an East Tennessee Foundation designated fund for Johnson County that is created and governed by a local advisory board.)

Created by a group of Johnson County residents in 2001 to serve the people of their beloved county, the Foundation gives donors a way to connect their giving with local nonprofits, public agencies and compelling charitable causes. JCF, established as a permanent endowment, provides an on-going resource to fund endeavors creating opportunities and addressing challenges for all citizens in Johnson County.

INFO: With the goal of improving the quality of life of Johnson County residents, the Johnson County Community Foundation (JCF) serves as Johnson County's own community foundation. Funds are raised and distributed throughout Johnson County by JCF. Monies contributed to JCF benefit only Johnson County and its citizens.

Margaret M. and Harley H. Wachs Youth Leadership Fund 

The Margaret M. and Harley H. Wachs Youth Leadership Fund was established in 2001 by their son, Peter, and daughter-in-law, Joy Wachs, in memory of Peter's mother and father. The Fund was created for the benefit of young people in Johnson County to provide travel and leadership opportunities that will enhance their knowledge and expand their abilities to become active, visionary leaders of Johnson County communities.

Grants Awarded from ETF to benefit Johnson County

  • Since 2001, East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) awarded $58,400 in grants to organizations located in Johnson County.
  • Johnson County has also benefited from many more ETF grants made on a regional basis or to organizations located in other counties that have directly served Johnson County.

ACTION Coalition $800
Fiscal Sponsor: Johnson County Safe Haven, Inc.
Funding is awarded to support two Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) trainings that will increase volunteerism and partnerships within the coalition and build the capacity of ACTION Coalition and its leadership to more effectively carry out its mission.

Heritage Hall, Inc. $980
Funding is awarded to support the purchase of hearing aid units for its patrons with hearing losses to help them have a satisfactory theatre experience.

Johnson County High School $600
Funding is awarded to support Johnson County High School Extended Service Center's (ESC) Accelerated Reading Program.

Johnson County Humane Society $1,000
Funding is awarded to support veterinary services to spay/neuter the family cat(s). Assistance will be limited to low-income households, senior and disabled citizens who are on fixed incomes.

Johnson County School System $500
Funding is awarded to support the "S.T.A.M.P. Out Bullying" program at Roan Creek and Mountain City Elementary Schools.

Funding is awarded to support enrichment of the music program at Doe Elementary School.

Funding is awarded to support the development of a hand bell (tone chime) program at Laurel Elementary School.

Funding is awarded to support expansion and enhancement of the music program at Shady Elementary School.

Johnson County Senior Center $350
Funding is awarded to support the 2007 Golden Harvest Festival with activities including the Golden Mile Walk, softball toss, billiards and a celebration lunch.

Johnson County Trails Association $1,000
Funding is awarded to support construction of the Laurel Creek Trail within Cherokee National Forest. A vital first step in construction of the trail is engineering related to a bridge across Laurel Creek.
