Community Foundations Accepting Donations For Oil Drilling Catastrophe Assistance

Gulf Coast communities are facing an environmental disaster
As we learned with the Valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill will have both short- and long-term consequences. The spill will effect the Gulf coastline and its fragile ecosystems. It will impact the livelihoods of fishermen and their families, as well as those who depend on the fishing and tourism industries. The environmental effects will linger for many years.
In response to this recent disaster, some community foundations serving the Gulf Coast region are opening funds to aid recovery efforts. Funds that are accepting donations are: Greater New Orleans Foundation Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund , The Community Foundation of South Alabama The Disaster Relief Fund for Oil Drilling Catastrophe Assistance, and Southeastern Council of Foundations Links to information for funders about the philanthropic response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
