KINGSPORT - Everyone dreams of a better tomorrow. Hopes for a brighter future. Now, the Kingsport Community Foundation is empowering the people of Kingsport to turn hopes and dreams into lasting legacies. The Kingsport Families Legacy Project is providing area residents the opportunity to establish a named fund to deliver needed support for an interest or initiative that benefits the community. By committing a minimum of $10,000 over a period of time of their choosing, Kingsport families can establish a fund to support a cause they believe in - for example, education, the arts, the environment, health care or human services.

"Those of us who call Kingsport home now have the opportunity to leave a legacy and contribute to our shared future," said Mike Stice, Kingsport Community Foundation board chairman. "A family legacy project is a perpetual fund that provides money for a special project year after year - a true legacy."
Kingsport residents Fielding and Joyce Rolston are among those who are shaping their legacies. The Rolston Family Fund will benefit United Way agencies. Similarly, the Harlan Family Fund will provide support to caregivers to the elderly, At-risk Children and for service opportunities for college students..

"The most important thing we can do is leave this world a little better than we found it," said Jim Harlan, who, with his wife, Donna, has established the Harlan Family Fund. "My family has such appreciation for those caregivers who meet the needs of our community's seniors. It's our privilege to support their important work by establishing our family fund."
The process to set up a Kingsport Families Legacy Project fund is straightforward. Professionals at the East Tennessee Foundation, the non-profit community foundation that provides administrative support to the Kingsport Community Foundation, are available to guide interested families through the process. All donations to a family fund are tax-deductible.
