Grants provided to support community-building initiatives in Monroe County

EAST TENNESSEE - East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) is now accepting applications for grants from its 2010 John D. Grubb and Louise G. Sumner Fund for Monroe County. Nonprofit organizations within Monroe County are strongly encouraged to submit proposals for projects and programs that improve the quality of life for citizens of Monroe County. Grants generally range from $500 to $4,000 and support projects occurring between December 1, 2010 - December 1, 2011. Submitted applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, September 3, 2010 to be eligible for funding.

Eligible organizations must be located in Monroe County and serve Monroe County residents. They must also be a 501(c)(3) organization or have an established nonprofit organization as a fiscal sponsor.

The John D. Grubb & Louise G. Sumner Fund for Monroe County, an affiliate fund of ETF, strives to encourage creative use of community resources to contribute to the well-being of Monroe County citizens. It also was created to benefit the economic, social and cultural well-being for all residents and communities of Monroe County.

This Fund for Monroe County was established through a gift from two Monroe County natives, John D. Grubb and his sister Louise. Their desire to help secure advanced educational opportunities for students and leave a philanthropic legacy dedicated to improving the lives of residents of Monroe County became a reality with the establishment of a permanent charitable endowment for Monroe County.

This annual grants program has helped a variety of projects throughout the county. In 2009, the program awarded $60,000 in grants to organizations that met the requirements and fulfilled the goals of the program. East Tennessee Foundation has been administering the fund ever since its establishment in 1998.

East Tennessee Foundation, established in 1986, is a regional community foundation serving 25 counties in East Tennessee. With the mission of making communities stronger and lives better through thoughtful giving, ETF administers 12 affiliate funds, including the Fund for Monroe County.
