The Harris Fund for Washington County Awards
East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) announces the recipients of the 2007 Harris Fund for Washington County grant program. Fourteen nonprofit organizations serving Washington County are being awarded grants totaling over $31,000 to support community programs and projects. The grant recipients will be honored at a reception held on Thursday, October 25 at 9 a.m. at Hands On! Regional Museum.
Grants from the Harris Fund for Washington County, an Affiliate Fund of ETF, have been awarded to the following: Academy of Strings, Appalachia Service Project Inc., East Tennessee State University, First Tennessee Human Resource Agency, Friends of Nature, Inc., Girls on the Run of Northeast Tennessee, Inc., Hands On! Regional Museum, Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, Johnson City Schools, Rocky Mount Historical Association, Science Hill High School Band Boosters, Inc., Tipton-Haynes Historical Association, Appalachian Resource Conservation and Development Council for the benefit of Upper Nolichucky Watershed Alliance, and Washington County Humane Society. The 2007 recipients have proposed a vast array of original programs that benefit children and parents, provide for cultural activities and education, support community or economic development and promise a significant contribution to the welfare of Washington County. Since 1985, the Harris Fund for Washington County has made 150 grants totaling more than $369,500 to organizations in Washington County.
The Harris Fund for Washington County was founded in 1994 in memory of the Harris Family of Johnson City. Grants are awarded annually to applicant organizations demonstrating the Fund's objective of providing support for innovative programs encouraging the use of area resources and contributing to the quality of life of Washington County residents.
East Tennessee Foundation, established in 1986, is a regional community foundation serving 25 counties in East Tennessee. It administers 12 Affiliate Funds, including the Harris Fund for Washington County.
