Johnson County Community Foundation Announces First Wachs Youth Leadership Award

JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. -Johnson County Community Foundation (JCF), an Affiliate Fund of East Tennessee Foundation, is pleased to announce Johnson County Safe Haven, Inc. as the recipient of the 2008 Margaret M. and Harley H. Wachs Youth Leadership Fund for the benefit of A.C.T.I.O.N Coalition, Inc.

A.C.T.I.O.N Coalition, Inc.'s Youth Coalition Program will benefit from the $600 award. The program aims to provide leadership training for a core group of students attending a national youth leadership conference in Washington, D.C. The conference training will build the relationship between youth and adult coalition leaders.

The Margaret M. and Harley H. Wachs Youth Leadership Fund supports projects or programs that engage Johnson County middle and/or high school youth in one of the following areas: Involvement in community leadership projects, participation in leadership roles, and/or travel for leadership development opportunities.

The Fund was established in 2001 by Joy and Peter Wachs, in memory of Peter's mother and father, Margaret and Harley. Grants will be awarded annually to applicant organizations that demonstrate the Fund's objective of providing support for programs that provide leadership opportunities for Johnson County youth.

Created by a group of Johnson County residents in 2001, to serve the people of their beloved county, JCF gives donors a way to connect their giving with local nonprofits, public agencies and compelling charitable causes. JCF, established as a permanent endowment, provides an on-going resource to fund endeavors creating opportunities and addressing challenges for all Johnson County citizens.

East Tennessee Foundation, established in 1986, is a regional community foundation serving 25 counties in East Tennessee. It administers several Affiliate Funds throughout the region, including the Johnson County Community Foundation.
