Three Students from Blount County Receive Foundation’s Largest Scholarship of $10,000 a Year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) is proud to announce the winners of the 2009 Gordon W. & Agnes P. Cobb Scholarship Fund. Each of the three recipients has been awarded a scholarship in the amount of $10,000 per year, for a total of up to $40,000.

This year three students from Blount County received the prestigious and highly competitive Gordon W. & Agnes P. Cobb Scholarship Award. The 2009 Blount County recipients are Molly Hunt and Joseph Tipton, both of Maryville High School, and Adam Patterson of William Blount High School. The Gordon W. and Agnes P. Cobb Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 through a $3 million bequest left by Agnes P. Cobb Yoakum as a tribute to her late husband and his work in the field of medical science. The fund is intended to assist students living in Blount, Knox and Loudon counties passionate about pursuing medical-related careers. Since its inception, the Gordon W. and Agnes P. Cobb Scholarship Fund has awarded over one million dollars to area students.

East Tennessee Foundation currently administers 28 active scholarship programs assisting 98 students within a 25-county service area. The scholarships established through East Tennessee Foundation, by individuals, groups, families and friends, help fulfill the dreams of those wishing to pursue secondary education.

East Tennessee Foundation is a non-profit, regional community foundation awarding grants in 25 counties in East Tennessee. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Foundation's mission is to create stronger communities and better lives through thoughtful giving.
