Arts Fund for East Tennessee

The Arts Fund for East Tennessee was established by East Tennessee Foundation in 1986.  It serves as a source of funds to support excellence in the arts, expand access to the arts, and connect artists with each other and with East Tennessee communities.

Funding will support programs by professionally managed arts organizations; programs by organizations that are not primarily arts providers; arts activities designed primarily as therapy; and/or schools providing arts and cultural projects of special merit.


Application Process and Dates

The application process is divided into two phases:   
  1. Letter of Intent (LOI)
  2. An invited full proposal
Important Dates:
  • Online LOIs available: January 16, 2018
  • LOI submission deadline: February 16, 2018
  • Select number of organizations invited to submit full applications: March 9, 2018
  • Application submission deadline: April 16, 2018

Grant Amounts and Term

Grants ranging from $3,000 to $12,000 will be awarded in August 2018 for two-year terms. 

Technical Assistance Workshops

Interested organizations are encouraged to attend one of two technical assistance workshops which will provide valuable insight into the grantmaking process and the types of programs that the Arts Fund seeks to fund. Workshops will be held on Thursday, January 25, 10:30 a.m. - Noon, in Jonesborough at the International Storytelling Center (116 W. Main Street), and on Friday, January 26, 10:30 a.m. - Noon, in Knoxville at the Public Defender's Community Law Office (1101 Liberty Street.) 


Application Information

Who May Apply

General Eligibility and Funding Criteria
Additional eligibility criteria specific to the Arts Fund:
  • Salary or administrative support must not exceed 50% of the funding requested
  • Organizations must be located in and serve constituents in ETF’s 25-county service area

Special Consideration will be given to:
  • Projects that extend arts opportunities to under-served populations (such as rural, ethnic, low-income)
  • Public art displays and performances that are designed to bring the arts into the everyday lives of the general public (such as murals, free or random public performances, and sculptures)
  • Projects that partner with minority or underrepresented artists
Preference will be given to:
  • Organizations that were not recipients of Arts Fund grants during the most recent grant term
