TELLICO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS THIRD GRANT TO TELLICO VILLAGE PUBLIC LIBRARY

October 25, 2021

There is a uniquely different, new leaf on the Giving Tree in the lobby of the Public Library at Tellico Village. The leaf has an ebony background with distinctive gold lettering denoting the Tellico Community Foundation (TCF).

Recently, TCF, an affiliate fund of East Tennessee Foundation, awarded a $6,000 grant to the library to cover the costs of 12 months of maintenance on the building. This is the third grant issued by the Foundation to the library since TCF’s founding in 2017. One grant was made to cover the cost of upgrading the operating systems software in the computer lab and an additional grant was made to assist in restoring the building after it flooded in 2019.

“TCF recognizes the important role the library plays in Tellico Village,” commented Joe Beyel, the Foundation’s chair. “It is a valued institution, utilized by thousands of Villagers annually. Our Board is a long-time supporter of the library’s mission.”

Elaine Nagelson, president of the Friends of the Public Library commented on TCF’s singular leaf. “The Friends of the Library have always appreciated the generosity of the Tellico Community Foundation. We wanted to give the Foundation special recognition for its ongoing support. This additional leaf design was created to recognize all those donations of $5,000 or more from library supporters.”

The latest TCF award is one of a succession of grants concluded over the past year. Last November, the Foundation gave Our Place an acre of land valued at $200,000 to allow the construction of an adult care center. In September, the Foundation ensured the completion of the Clear Creek Kayak Launch project with a gift of $3,000 to the Timeless Tellico Foundation.

“This past spring, we sold the remaining acreage the Foundation owned in front of the Food Lion off Tellico Parkway,” said Beyel. “Our Board committed to underwrite a series of worthwhile projects and area needs which have come to our attention. This grant to fund the library’s maintenance for a year helps a respected community resource continue functioning. It’s part of TCF’s community enrichment focus.”
